Skills change lives

Who we are

We are the national member organisation for WorldSkills in Bangladesh.

WorldSkills Bangladesh exists to make skill visible. We do that in the plainest way available: we put young people in a hall with the same task, the same time and the same judges, and we publish the result.

What we actually do

Four things, and we try not to drift beyond them. We run divisional heats and a national competition across 30 skills. We train and accredit the judges so that a mark in Rangpur means what it means in Dhaka. We write test projects with employers so that what is judged is what is paid for. And we prepare Team Bangladesh for international competition.

Vision

That a young person in Bangladesh can choose a technical trade without anyone treating it as the choice they made because they had no other.

Mission

To raise the standard and the standing of vocational skill in Bangladesh through competition, and to carry the best of it onto the international stage.

How we are governed

A board of nine draws from government, industry and the training sector. A small secretariat in Dhaka runs the day to day work. Technical decisions for each skill sit with a Chief Expert, who is a practising professional, not a member of staff.

Where the money comes from

Government grant, industry partnership, and in-kind support from host institutes who give us their workshops for a week. Competitors never pay to enter.
